As you can see, the jobs for boomers salaries are pretty grim. And that’s IF you are qualified to actually be a logistician, or a nurse, or a teacher.
Jobs for Boomers – the Good News
The good news is that boomers are talented, gifted, wise and experienced, and that gives boomers the opportunity to do almost anything.
No Jobs for Boomers might mean that it’s time for you to “recareer!”
According to JobDig.com, ReCareering is about finding authentic work in the second half of life.
What do you want to do? What lights you up? Maybe your passion is to NEVER look for a job again? I know that was mine!
ReCareering is about finding the right fit. Many of us worked the first half of our life to “fit” the job description. We worked the long hours, worked various shifts, drove the long commute and spent time on the road away from family. We did what we needed to do to pay bills, pay a mortgage, raise a family, etc. ReCareering is the process of being selective, being creative, being fulfilled and being intentional about how you spend your time.
I believe that second-half of life seekers want something deeper out of life. “They want more personal purpose, more meaning, they want to align their personality more clearly, they want to be more ‘on target’ with their life. They seek a nearer connection between their life and the larger world; they want their efforts to be more socially redeemable.”
If you are considering recareering into entrepreneurship, check out how here.
How many times have I heard that? Whether it was about business or life or investing or anything else I have ever spoken with someone about. And while my belief in our own responsibility for our successes and our failures has never wavered, this brings an interesting dynamic to life, our choices and ultimately our likelihood for attaining or achieving anything we can imagine or desire.
We have to accept the FACT that some things won’t work. And there are a variety of reasons, and ALL of them come back to the person who didn’t have success. Want to know a few of my “favorite reasons to fail”???
Didn’t do what they said to do.
Did nothing.
Did only some.
Did it “my” way.
Went through the motions, but really didn’t do it.
Didn’t understand the process required.
They didn’t have a clear list of steps.
Didn’t follow instructions.
Didn’t follow the order of the instructions.
Picked something that had only a 1% or less success rate.
Ok … there are so many more I could list, but you get the idea.
You let your past performance dictate your future outcome.
We do that in so many different areas of our life that it becomes the default instead of the rare exception. When something we think we tried fails, we stop trying other things. Many years ago I read a few life-changing books that, among other things I’ve read, pointed out that the successful people in life are ones who “did the things that others failed to do” and I’ve added a few interpretations to that.
Simply don’t take the action required.
Miss out on the thinking, planning, visualization and day-dreaming about “how it is” (more about that coming)
STOP AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE.
The Necessity of Day-Dreaming and Visualization
Without going down that rabbit hole of explanation, you and I and everyone must have dreams and visions of things we want and these MUST be in the “as if I already had it or did it” mode and not “maybe some day” mode. When I wanted a new car a few years ago my visualization had the car in my garage, driveway, me in it, going places that I go … not how it looked at the dealership … how it looked NOW in my life.
Stumbling and not getting up again
So read the words on that photo above and realize that success is merely a brief interlude in the sequence of failed attempts. NEVER QUIT is the rule to follow. Success goes to the persistent and diligent and not the ones who stop.
Welcome to another Don blog posting and hang on to your hat. This is all about the drink or juice or smoothie or beverage made from fresh ingredients. As part of my program of shrinking – I choose to phrase it in a positive manner and not use any word reflecting losing or loss, I began to make a “meal replacement smoothie” as one (and sometimes two) meals a day – usually my breakfast. The basic concept I was and am following is that if I begin my day with a nutritional “blast” then the rest of the day will require less groceries and therefore allow me to shrink. We had wanted a Vita-mix for a long time, so this was bonus. My recipes are an evolutionary process and I’d like to share some of the basics I am following:
I’m using watermelon as one of my basic “liquids” – about a cup and a half or so of chunks – seeds included, but no rind. This equates to almost a cup of liquid.
I like adding a large leaf of kale (take the stem out and cut it into pieces and put into the watermelon liquid).
I add some protein powder – this was a huge challenge to find one that didn’t have a ton of added sugar and did have a reasonable amount of added nutrients – the one I chose is:
Calories 113
Calories from Fat 6
Total Fat 1 g
Saturated fat 0 g
Cholesterol 0 mg
Sodium 31 mg
Total Carbohydrates 3 g
Fiber 1 g
Sugars 2 g
Protein 22 g
Very low in sugar and a decent amount of protein from peas.
The taste was “less than stellar” until I added a teaspoon of organic cocoa powder (I bought from Trader Joe’s)
I add a cut up peach or nectarine.
I add a few dates (we live in the date capital of the world and I buy the Royal pitted Medjools)
When it is all nicely mixed and “smoothed” I add about 3/4 cup of ice to chill it.
I spent a while reading the labels on the different powders that are available. Many had soy protein and/or lots of sugar and I wanted a healthier choice. To add (or transform) the taste from “GREEN” to palatable I’ve added the cocoa and have an amazingly chocolatey taste.
Make your own variations with your favorite flavors and be healthy.
How is it that I don’t absorb anything that could numb my mouth?
(I can hear my friends laughing now at the idea of my mouth being numb.)
POO on you guys! I can keep my mouth shut… (sometimes)
To tell this story, I have to go back a few months…
About six months ago, I bit down on a radish. When I bit down, I injured the roof of my mouth behind one of my front teeth. At the time, I didn’t think anything other than…
“That’s weird!”
I developed a sore on the roof of my mouth, but it went away in a few days.
A few months later, the sore came back, then went away again.
Recently, though, the sore came back AND my front tooth was loose.
That was my cue to go to the dentist and find out what was up.
Well, evidently I BROKE my tooth on that radish six months ago! Now the tooth has to go and I’m left with choices.
ALL of the choices I hate.
In the meantime, I needed a checkup and cleaning, and today was the day.
Luckily I have great teeth. I rarely have cavities and today was no exception. However, the dreaded “deep cleaning” was upon me. While I was already at the dentist, I agreed to have half of my mouth done. UGH.
Now comes the weird part. I rinsed with numbing “stuff,” I received no less than 10 injections, and STILL I could feel every single thing.
The dentist was stumped.
We waited another 10 minutes (maybe my mouth was “slow”)… nothing.
At that point, I’d had enough and said “CLEAN ME!” After all that, the deep cleaning took a whopping 10 minutes!
I’m sore, woosy and just plain happy that this is over with.
OH, WAIT! It isn’t over with! I have to get the other half of my mouth cleaned! Crap!
So, back to that front tooth…
Here are my choices:
Remove the tooth and have a bridge put in (YUK!)
Remove the tooth and have an implant put in (takes 6+ months!!!)
Both choices SUCK.
Are you serious? Really? I have to have one of my FRONT TEETH REMOVED?
SERIOUSLY? Because I bit into a RADISH????
Here’s the deal. While I’m totally freaking out about something I don’t have a choice about (removal of my tooth), I know that I don’t have to go the “how-do-I-say-this-low-class-toothless-no-insurance-no-choice-toothless route. I know that I won’t ever look like I can’t afford teeth.
But…
OK, I’m really in denial. How is it, in this day and age that a healthy person that takes care of herself has to lose a FRONT TOOTH because…
SHE BIT INTO A RADISH???
REALLY?
In the meantime, if you are looking for something, there are plenty of links on this page to help you deal with…
